BEAN TALK
We’ve had some questions about the best way to store coffee beans? So here’s some storage tips to get the best flavours, aromas & crema out of your fresh roasted whole beans.
.
IT’S IN THE BAG
After I'm roasted by Off the Leash I'm packed fresh in a kraft coffee bag, especially made for me. It has a one way valve to let me breathe out CO2 but stops oxygen getting in. Once packaged I build up pressure & without this valve I could burst out of storage!🐣 (this is why you see my bag puff up in the first few weeks & you smell my aromas coming out).
.
As I'm a perishable, fresh food product, my bag keeps me protected from enemies, such as oxygen, light, heat & moisture (any of these will speed up the staling process). Keep me in a cool, dry place (please not the fridge or freezer).
.
Just pour enough beans in your hopper/grinder for each brew or day (as most hoppers aren’t air tight, I’ll lose freshness if I sit in here). Grind me fresh for each brew (as once ground I deteriorate & go stale).
.
My bag has a resealable zip, so squeeze out any excess air & zip me up!
.
I like to rest up to a week after roasting to degas & start developing my flavours & am best enjoyed within 5 weeks of the roast date.
Cheers🖤☕️
